A high-level meeting between Meta's global team and the Indian government is scheduled for August 5 and 6, where several critical issues will be discussed.

The government plans to raise concerns over the platform's handling of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSAM) and the wrongful removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook reel addressing India's youth.

IT Secretary S Krishnan emphasized that a leading technology company like Meta should be able to ensure its systems function as intended, preventing such incidents.

The Indian government has been critical of Meta's handling of CSAM in paid advertisements on Instagram, with a notice having been issued earlier.

A demand for a personal apology from CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been made by several BJP leaders, including Parliamentary Standing Committee chairman Nishikant Dubey, who threatened to revoke Meta's safe harbour protection under Section 79 of the IT Act if an apology isn't forthcoming.
