Columbia University has issued an advisory to its foreign students, particularly those from India, to return by the first week of September. This move comes ahead of the implementation of a new rule by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for F and J visa holders.
The new rule, also known as the “final rule,” replaces the concept of “duration of status” with a “fixed time period of admission.” This change is set to take effect from September 15.
The advisory from Columbia University is aimed at ensuring that its students are aware of the changes and make necessary arrangements to comply with the new regulations.
