A seven-month pregnant woman, Rajni Sindram, gave birth to quadruplets in an autorickshaw after she and her husband were unable to secure timely medical help.

Rajni, a resident of Naigawan village, went into severe labour pains at her home around 7 am. Her husband, Ganesh Singaram, stated that they immediately called the 108 ambulance service but did not receive any assistance.

The couple then called the local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker and rushed Rajni to the nearby Primary Health Centre in an auto at around 8 am. The doctor at the health centre provided initial treatment and referred her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bichhiya town.

According to Ganesh Singaram, Rajni endured unbearable labour pain and delivered four babies — three boys and a girl — one after another inside the autorickshaw. By the time she reached the CHC, doctors examined the infants and declared all four dead.

Bichhiya block medical officer Anup Kumar Bharatiya stated that the pregnancy was approximately 30 weeks, leading to premature delivery. The newborns, each weighing around 1.5 kilograms, were not fully developed. Bharatiya added that an ASHA worker accompanied the woman throughout and that he had no information about the ambulance not reaching Rajni's home. He also mentioned that the woman's condition is stable and she is receiving treatment.

District Collector Rahul Dhote Namdeo said an inquiry is underway. 'We are investigating the matter. As of now, it appears the newborns died due to premature delivery,' he stated.
